Possum Holler Garage Music Fest
The drive from Nola to Columbia TN is the same as the one we did last month. The only difference is the trees are a little more yellow, orange and red. The big difference is how long it took us to drive 496 miles. Outside Sandersville MS the low tire pressure light came on in Paul’s truck....We hadn’t really paid attention to exactly where we were and if there was an exit nearby. Ah, there, up ahead an exit sign, one mile. We watched the air pressure go down as we got closer to the exit. We made it to the parking lot of a Love station. Parked and took the rear driver's tire off to discover a ring shank nail had punctured the tire. Fortunately Paul had a fix a flat kit and in an hour we were back on the road...not bad.
So now we went from an 8 hour to a 9 hour drive....ok it's not too bad. We should be there around 5 or 6 depending on how many times we stop...
No so fast....we did great on I-59, even when we merged with I-20.... GPS did notify us of a slow down on I-65 but we assumed it would be cleared by the time we arrived around 4 since it was noon. Well not exactly.
Traffic was backed up for probably 5-7 miles going 0-5-9 mph. GPS indicated it would be a 1-1.5 hour delay. The alternate route was clogged with all the people who had the same idea of an alternate route as we did.... decision made....stay on I-65. It turns out to be a good one. After a short distance past the crowded exit....a work truck was picking up the cones thereafter the traffic started moving...this ended up being only a 45 minute delay....
Easy check in...more or less.. new guy on the desk....but eventually we got our keys room 204 at the Candlewood in Columbia TN. Then back down to the truck and off to Sawdust Tenn to see Max and Margaret. By now it was almost 7. Showtime was around 7. We made it just in time. The front part of their garage was the stage and lots of tables set up for guests. It was quite full. Robert (Margaret 's son) found us some chairs over by the bar. Yes they have a small bar against one wall. It was BYOB but they did have a barrel with water on ice. Outside there was a guy selling BBQ meals, we bought one and split it. It was tastey.
Tonight is the first night of a weekend of music. Elvis is in the house. A very young Elvis who did a 2 hour show and he was very good.... I hope to see him again.
We gave Max and Margaret the ice chest with the bread pudding.
Let's go back a minute and mention that when we got there Max was on stage introducing some of the people in the audience. As we walked by he mentioned us as friends from Nola who always bring food.... LoL....After the show everyone started to leave and we did the same. It had been a long day and we were tired.
SATURDAY…
We slept in. We were tired. Walked to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and back again for late lunch/early dinner.
Back to Possum Hollow Garage for the second night of music... A friend of Margaret 's opened the show. Darcia covered a couple of songs and then did one she had written called Possum Hollow....a tribute to Max and Margaret. She is probably more country western than anything else. Next was T. Graham Brown. He is a singer/song writer from Nashville. Another wonderful evening of great music. He was accompanied by a guitar and a sax. Both were artists in the own rite. They made a great trio.
Each night we met some wonderful people. Ron and a couple from Mt. Pleasant, just to name a few.
But as always all good things must come to an end.
Tomorrow is back to Nola and Emma has a birthday.
Max, I think really enjoyed the bread pudding as 1/4 of the tray was gone. Will bring something different next time....
Sunday
On the road again by 7:30. It is Emma's birthday today. Vincent 's on St Charles was waiting for us. They surprised her with a cannoli for dessert. We had a wonderful dinner. Jamie met us at the house. We said our goodbyes and it was time for bed. The end to a wonderful weekend....till next week....
Dallas/Peru.....see you then.
